Roughshod and winged...

Taken from the verse ‘Finding The One Brief Note’ by Maxine Kumin, the words succinctly express my methodological approach and my continued inquiry. At first appearing paradoxical – how can something be crude and sublime at the same time? – it has the capacity of the best poetry to quietly define the human condition by our inherent contradictions.

My research constantly returns to this subject: the reconciling of dualities. Using a series of ‘sliding scales’, I combine materials and techniques to create a cohesive family of work; navigating the terrain between opposing ideas, and bridging difference to create an honest – and ambiguous – emotional response.
